In November I went on a course to make a pig in a day at Gayle Mill near Hawes. The teacher was Josie East who had prepared all the willow in advance.
Stage 1 involved creating the basic shape of the pig:

Once the basic shape was created the willow was woven around the body and legs inserted:
Stage 2 – Looking like a pig now
By the end of the day it really had changed from Air Balloon to Pig with lovely curly Corn Dolly tail:

Once home it just needed tidying up:
The finished article! A Willow Pig
It was an excellent day and I can really recommend having a go at Willow Weaving!
In the middle of October I received an email asking how quickly could I send some Corn Dollies to Edinburgh?
Turns out the Director of a production of The Bondagers being put on at The Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh wanted four Corn Dollies for the play. I packed them up and posted them out the next day along with a part made ArtStraw Corn Dolly for the cast to see how they are constructed..
Being someone who loves the Theatre I was really thrilled that my handiwork was going to be on stage and of course I had to check it out!
It sounds a really interesting play about a side of rural life I had never heard about before.
The webpage is well worth a look:
and I for one will be going if it tours nearby,
